Door Mats . . . What does yours say about you?
From simple, to creative, to humorous . . . door mats can reveal a lot about the personality of the people living on the other side of the door.
Unfortunately, the term “door mat” took on the meaning of being a person who lets others walk all over him. So, we often use the term “welcome mat” instead—a far more positive term. However, thanks to online retailers offering hundreds of varieties to choose from or even the option to create your own, many mats don’t actually even include the word “welcome.”
The door mats you see in the photo are a collage of just a few from the building I live in. Note: I did not include photos of the blank or black door mats. Why not? Because those just aren’t any fun! But, even when they are black or don’t have any words on them, those also say something, don’t they? Regardless of the type of door mat, people in the building walk carpeted hallways to their door and so the door mats don’t really serve their traditional purpose—to wipe your feet (unless, of course, you have a house and are entering from outside). Rather, they are more often used to convey a message about the residents—to show that someone lives there, to provide a welcoming feel, and to give others a sense of who they are and what they love . . . and I love that!
