Trusting Your Navigation

When you are on a road trip, do you rely on GPS mapping? Yes? Have you ever had to program your route (one you normally haven't taken) to a point along the way...because the mapping won't offer the route you want? Then, when you get to that point, and want to program in the remaining route, there's no signal and you can't get any mapping connection? Well, that happened to me yesterday.

What did I do? Thankfully, I did a quick scan of the full route before I departed so I had a general idea of timing and turns, as well as some of the town names. I also relied on my general memory (from a week prior) of the route from the opposite direction. The other thing that can help is paying attention to the four directions (N, E, S, W)...hopefully, you know which direction to your destination. I also keep actual maps in my vehicle--because you just never know when you might need the old-fashioned fold-out (didn’t need this time). There are also these green things on the side of the road called signs with town names and miles!

And, do you know what else I did? I chose a spot to pull off the road at a scenic turn-out for a few minutes and just soaked up the incredible beauty.

Truthfully, I really had no worries on getting to my destination...and it was a peaceful and relaxing drive through an incredibly beautiful part of our country.

Moral of the story: Use your knowledge, experience, and tools...while you may not need all of them at one time, there are often more options to guide you than you realize.

Here's a quote that I love and that my sister and I always used to say on road trips..."And remember, no matter where you go, there you are." (Confucius)
